Verifying your numbers

A practical method to confirm a month is right — start with the Payroll Summary, drill into agent statements and merchant previews, use Explorer to investigate.

The goal of verification is confidence: knowing the configuration produces the right payouts, so you can run each new month in minutes and trust the output. Here's a practical top-down method.

1. Scan the Payroll Summary

Start with the Payroll Summary — every agent on one page, earnings by type. Mark each agent right or wrong, and note which column is off when it is. This narrows any problem to commission, override, or a specific deduction before you dig.

2. Drill into the agent's statement

For a questionable agent, open their statement / Preview from the agent reports. It breaks the payout down per merchant, so you can see exactly which account and which rate produced the number. Affiliate/partner earnings appear in their own section.

3. Check against the source report

For an affiliate or a rep, compare their statement to what you'd expect from the raw report — this surfaces what's matching and what isn't: a merchant not assigned, a new account with no rate, an affiliate pointed at the wrong book. Fix the assignment or agreement and recalculate.

4. Use Explorer to investigate

The Explorer page rolls profit and commission up by source, agent, or merchant and lets you drill down, with coverage % and assigned/unassigned counts. It's the right tool for questions like "which merchants on this source have no agent?" or "why did this agent's total move month over month?"

5. For org-level totals, use the right report

Don't reconcile company profit by summing per-agent profit columns — overrides cause a double-count in raw per-agent profit (the override and the rep both carry the merchant's full profit). It doesn't affect anyone's pay, but it inflates a naïve sum. For true house economics, use the House Margin report; for the money-journey per account, use the Revenue Breakdown report. See Overrides.

6. Verify a second month

Two clean months in a row is the real bar for trust. If one month is right and another is wrong for the same agent, suspect a data problem in that month (a corrected file not re-uploaded, a variable fee not entered) rather than a configuration bug.
