Payout types explained

The ways an agent can earn — Commission, Override, and Affiliate/Partner deduction — and how one person can earn in several ways at once.

In SplitRun everyone who gets paid is an agent. What separates a rep from a manager from an affiliate is the payout type on how they earn. The same person can earn through more than one type at once, and reports keep each stream separate.

The three ways to earn

Commission

Standard pay on the agent's own assigned merchants: their percentage × their commission base. Set up by assigning the agent to merchants and giving them a commission agreement.

Override

A cut of another rep's commission — e.g. a manager earns 10% of what Tom, Tina, and Mike each earn. The override is a percentage of the rep's pay, not of merchant revenue. Set up on the manager's agent page. See Overrides.

Affiliate / Partner (a deduction paid to an agent)

A rebate or profit-share taken before commissions, in the revenue-flow waterfall, and paid to this agent. It's configured as a deduction that's "paid to an agent", then assigned to the merchants it applies to. See Affiliates as agents.

One person, multiple streams

A senior rep might earn commission on their own book, an override on their team, and an affiliate rebate on merchants they referred. SplitRun handles all three for one agent and shows each separately — the payouts configured chips on the Agents list summarize which types apply to each person, and reports break the amounts out by type.

Why the distinction matters

  • On the Agents page, the filter pills let you see everyone of a given type at once (e.g. all affiliates).
  • In reports, commission, override, and each deduction type are separate lines — so a person's affiliate earnings never get muddled with their commission.
  • In the waterfall, the type determines where the money comes out: affiliate/partner deductions come out before commission; overrides come out after it. See How SplitRun calculates.

A note on "kind"

You may see an agent labeled as an affiliate or partner. That label is descriptive only — it does not restrict how they can earn. Any active agent can be a commission earner, an override manager, and a deduction payee at the same time.
