Assign an agent & set a commission

Assign one or more agents to a merchant so they earn commission; the rate comes from the agent's vendor agreement, not the merchant.

Assigning an agent to a merchant is what makes that agent earn commission on it. A merchant with no assigned agent produces no commission (its full profit falls to House) — so assigning new merchants each month is a key part of the routine.

Assign an agent (from the merchant)

  1. Open Accounts → click the merchant.
  2. In the Assigned Agents card, choose an agent from the Add Agent dropdown.
  3. Click Assign.

The agent now earns on this merchant at the rate defined in their vendor agreement. As the help text on the card notes: commission rates are configured in the agent's vendor agreements — see Commission agreements.

Where the rate and base come from

The percentage and base an agent earns aren't set on the merchant — they come from the agent's agreement for that vendor and income type (its %, base, and effective dates). Set them once and they apply to every merchant that agent is assigned to. To give one agent a different rate on one vendor, edit their agreement; to give a different rate on a subset of merchants, use a separate agreement.

Multiple agents on one merchant

You can assign more than one agent to a merchant — each earns per their own agreement. There's no "primary" agent.

For a genuine split deal, give each co-owner a Share % in the Assigned Agents card. Once two or more agents have a share, the account becomes a shared account: each earns their share as real commission and the house keeps whatever isn't allocated. Leaving an agent's share blank falls back to their agreement rate. See Shared accounts.

Assigning in bulk

When onboarding or after a big upload, assigning one merchant at a time is slow. Two faster paths:

  • In the setup wizard (Setup → Agents & Assignments): upload a list of merchants and assign them all to one agent, or upload a sheet that maps each merchant to its agent — SplitRun auto-creates any agents named in the sheet.
  • Reassign later from the merchant page or the agent's page as reps change.

Overrides and affiliates are separate

  • A manager earning a cut of a rep's commission is an override, set on the manager, not here. See Overrides.
  • An affiliate or rebate partner earning a pre-commission cut is a deduction paid to an agent, not a commission assignment. See Affiliates as agents.

After assigning

New assignments trigger a recalculation so the merchant's commission flows to the right people. See Recalculating commissions.
